Glossary



Associate Member: A member who pays reduced dues and is entitled to some privileges of membership.

Building Fund: The total amount due per member for the building fund. The payment schedule for this fund is: nothing due the first year of membership, 1/2 due the second year, and any remaining balance the third year.

Chevra: An additional amount above membership dues that is required for a fund that is used to cover funeral and burial costs for members

Compugene Membership System (CMS): The all-inclusive software for total management of your synagogue, temple, school, museum, or club.

Database: The location where your data is stored, consisting of various tables containing your data. The standard CMS database suffix is .csd . You can have multiple databases, such as one for a previous fiscal year's data and one for this fiscal year's data.

Directive: An instruction in a template that describes how to format text for displaying or printing.

Dues: The annual payment required. This can be different for each different member type you have set up.

Encryption: The encoding of sensitive data in your Compugene Membership System database, so that if somebody were to make a copy of your database, the data in that database would not be readable without use of the Compugene Membership System itself. All sensitive data is automatically encrypted by the Compugene Membership System. You can additionally add password protection to your database.

Events: Events are bar/bas mitzvahs, weddings, melave malkas, family parties, kiddushes, etc. that would use a social hall or other facility.

Financial Grid: The large grid displaying financial information, such as balance forwards and amounts paid, and totals per member and per organization.

Fiscal Year Start: The month and date of your fiscal year start, such as 7/1, for July 1.

IRS Amount: The minimum amount for which a tax substantiation form is required.

Large Grid: See Financial grid.

Member: A person who pays dues to your organization and is entitled to the rights, benefits, and privileges of your organization.

Mishloach Manot: See Round Robin, below.

Non-member: A person or family who contributes to the organization but is not a dues-paying member

Non-participant: A member who is receiving from at least one other member but is not giving to at least one other member in the Round Robin (Mishloach Manot).

Notification: The process of notifying a member who will be observing a yahrzeit (the anniversary of date of passing of a close relative) in the near future.

Options Window: The program window where most option settings are displayed and modified.

Out-of-town Member A member who pays reduced dues and resides out of the immediate area of your organization. This could be a member who used to live in the area but moved away, yet still desires to maintain membership ties.

Participant: A member who will be giving to at least one other member in the Round Robin (Mishloach Manot).

Plots: The part of the Compugene Membership System that allows you to map and control your Cemetery Plot charts.

Preview Mode: The opposite of Print Mode; lets you view a document on-screen before you print it.

Print Mode: The opposite of Preview Mode; puts your report directly to the printer queue.

Reciprocation: Refers to Round Robin: If member A selected member B, but member B did not select member A, if member B chose the reciprocal option, the system will automatically adjust so that member B will be giving to member A.

Round Robin: Also known as Mishloach Manot, this feature allows you to track who is giving to who for any occasion and also allows you to do automatic reciprocation, so that if member A is giving to member B, you can automatically have member B give to member A.

Seating: The part of the Compugene Membership System that allows you to map and control your High Holiday seating charts.

Security: The ability of the administrator of the Compugene Membership System to lock a database against unauthorized modifications or viewing or provide selective view/update access to various users that the administrator defines.

Small Financial Grid: The small grid displaying details of payments and/or pledges for one member.

Symbolics: Symbolics are values in templates that are replaced by other values at print/preview time. For example, a symbolic in a template might be &ewdate&, which is replaced by today's date whenever the document is formatted.

Templates: Templates are pre-defined forms that describe how a document is to be arranged; for example, where a date field is to be positioned.

Youth Dues: The youth dues amount for a member with children of youth-group age. The youth dues for a member is automatically computed based on the number of children entered into the children box in the View window. Therefore, in the View window enter only the number of children of a member that are old enough for youth groups. The cost is taken from the Misc Fees window where the Youth fees are initially set.
